WEEK 4

 WEEKLY LECTURE

Project Documentation

This week class is about project documentation. Project documentation means to keep track of and document down the whole process of our project. It plays an important role when we are doing projects is because it helps us identify the mistakes we have done during the project and how we would like to solve the problem after realized there are problems in our project. Hence, we need to have a prototype before developing the real product out in order to let us see if the projects we've been doing really works or not. Well, the benefits that a prototype gives is that it allows us to collect feedback from users when we are in the process of planning an app or website or any products. Which, it allows us to improve our product based on user feedback. Therefore, usually after done with the prototype, it is necessary to do a usability test.

Prototype types:

- paper prototype

- digital prototype

- videos

- storyboards and many more

Workshop : User Interaction Design

User interaction design is the design of interaction between user and products. The interaction between a user and a product involves elements such as "aesthetics, motion, sound, space, and many more". Each of these elements can involve more specialised fields, such as sound design for the crafting of sound used in user interactions. (Teo Yu Siang, 2020)

There are 5 dimensions of interaction design which is:

1. Words

- the name we use for each element on the navigation bars

- the name need simple & easy

- the name need the users are more familiar with

- the consistency of word in the product (to let user understanding easily and immediately)

2. Visual Representation

- typography, diagram, icon, graphics, images etc

- it is to communicate the information with the users

3. Physical object or space

- the object that users will interact with the product

- for exp, we use our fingers to interact with the smartphone (the product)

4. Time

- sounds, animations, videos

- it provides better interactions with the user

- Look into the amount of time a user will spend to interact with our product, which leads to some questions (can users track their progress?)

5. Behaviour

- how do user operate our product?

- what is their reaction when interacting with our product?

- what is their feedback after they use our product

(Teo Yu Siang, 2020)

PROJECT PROGRESS

Data Collection

After done sending out the questionnaire surveys, this week is where I need to close the survey and collect all the data. From the responses collected, I'm quite surprised by the phenomenon of disabled people quality of living. This is due to when I did research previously that most of the disabled people are unemployed, I still have some doubts with the data that it is so severe which 95% of the disabled people are unemployed. (Ministry of Human Resources, 2010). However, after conducting the questionnaire survey, I do believe most of the disabled people in Malaysia are really unemployed due to a few issues including discriminations among employers, lack of job opportunities in the market, even many of them wanted to learn or have training but have no idea on how to start because it is lack centralized community that helps them in seeking job opportunities as well as no access to basic vocational training. Although some of them are employed, the meaning they claimed "employed" is that they selling tissues to the public and gets very little income. Yet, most of the disabled people who participate in the survey are at the age range of 18 to 30 years old, which this age is usually the time where adults earn their income to maintain their living.

Besides, most of the disabled people among the participants of the survey are finding jobs through websites, which is inconvenient and not disabled-friendly. They prefer using mobile phones more than the website when searching for some information or learning things. Nonetheless, they hope that there is a platform that could provide a series of service which convenient the disabled people such as access to training or knowledge learning,  job opportunities, motivational talks and many more. It is because they found it's hard to found a website that did these service yet it is not disabled-friendly when browsing the other jobs websites.

From the data collection, I realized that what expand from the project is that providing some extra features such as vocational training, motivational talks, as well as the accessibility of an app to convenient them. I think this questionnaire survey do help me to understand more of my target audience and gave me some ideas on the extra features for the project. It is an interesting experience when investigating the data collected from the survey.

User Persona , User Story

After done with the data collection and the understanding of my target audience, the next step is to create user personas and user stories. It is to let me have a clearer picture of my target audience and what is the target audience's problem.

I did 3 user persona and user story based on their needs so I can foresee the user's expectation, meanwhile, get to know their issue faced then solve the problem. The main issue I need to solve in this project is that job opportunity, vocational training, knowledge learning and disabled-friendly in terms of the accessibility of the prototype.

Below is the 1st draft of my user persona and user stories, which is to be commented on next week from the lecturer.

Finalize Research Questions

After a few rounds of research and brainstorming as well as comments from the lecturer, I've finalized the topic with more detailed features and confirm with the research question of this project. Below are the finalized topic / issue and the research question that have commented by lecturer.

Topic :

An app that helps disabled people to find jobs more conveniently meanwhile improving their quality of life by providing a series of basic / advanced vocational training as well as motivation courses.

Research question :

How can disabled people in Malaysia find jobs to improve their quality of life
